Shelley Nester, Principal

Dear AES Families,

Welcome to a new school year!  Summer has once again come and gone quickly.  I trust that you were able to spend time with family and friends and are ready to embark on a new and exciting year.  It is a privilege to serve as your principal, and I am extremely fortunate to be able to work with such a wonderful group of students, families, and staff members.  The elementary years are critical times of development for students, and I look forward to working with you to ensure this school year is successful for your child.  I am committed to our students and families as well as a love for learning.

This summer, teachers attended professional development on several new instructional strategies they will use to differentiate instruction this year.  As a division, we will continue to focus professional learning on those practices that have the greatest impact on student learning.  Our teachers have continued to hone their skills so that lessons engage students and encourage high levels of achievement. Their hard work ensures another promising and productive year at AES.

It was with great pride that we announced last year that AES was fully accredited.  We believe, that again based on preliminary scores, AES will be fully accredited this year.  As principal, I will uphold the high expectations established at Acquinton that you, the faculty, our students, and the community have come to expect.  Some of these expectations are listed below:

For Students:

Attending school daily and arriving on time.  School begins at 8:10 A.M. and dismisses at 2:55 P.M.

Reading daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills.

Asking for help when needed.

Respecting one’s self and others.

For Parents:

Encouraging your child to share with you what he/she does in school each day.

Promoting a strong work ethic and expecting him/her to succeed in school.

We greatly cherish the partnership between the school and parent because we understand the impact this relationship has on each student.  Our theme this year is “Take a Chance, Make a Difference.”  Please continue to partner with us as we remain committed to ensuring a safe and positive learning environment where students and staff promote and model responsible, respectful behavior to ensure the best learning environment for all students.

I look forward to working together as we support the AES community. Please join us for Back to School Night on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 6:00pm.

Warm Regards,

Shelley L. D. Nester
